Alathiyur Pavelikkara Narayanathu Kavu Sudarshana Temple in Malappuram dt. of Kerala is a rare holy place, as it is a temple enshrining Sudarshana idol. Such temples are not common. Sudarshana symbolises the holy presence of Lord Maha Vishnu. In the puranic anecdote of Santhanagopala we are told that the hero Arjuna had his Vaikuntha darshan through the medium of Sudarshana Chakra. The Chakra installed in this temple is in the form contemplated in this anecdote. Hence any devotee is certain to attain the blissful experience that Arjuna once attained. In the course of Kaliyuga, even the most dedicated devotee has no complete escape from the distresses caused by inadvertent performances of sinful deeds. By Lord’s grace effects of sins are vanished. By praying to Sudarshana and singing Sudarshana’s praises, the Lord will be pleased to shower His grace on any devotee.
Both Mahabharata and Vishnupurana extol Sudarshana, as an embodiment of power and destroyer of obstacles. The legend tells us that Sudarshana Wheel is the result of churning of the Sun. It was Visvakarma who did this to reduce Sun’s unbearable luster.
Among amulets Sudarshana yantra is an important one. By wearing this amulet with Sudarhsana Chakra engraved in it, bad effects of enmity and the ill-luck caused by the courses of Jupiter and Mercury can be averted.
In Sri Narayanathu Kavu, one can make special offerings for attaining prosperity, acquiring knowledge and obtaining off-springs. Homam, the fire offering, like Sudarshanam and Mahasudarshanam are more rewarding, if conducted in temples consecrated to Sudarshana Chakra.
Sudarshana can mean either ‘that which offers auspicious vision’ or ‘that which gives happiness to the viewers’. Anyone who visits this temple to do pooja will easily be convinced that both these derivations are befitting. The sub-deities of this temple, namely, Ganapati, Sasta, Durga and Nagaraja are also showering blessings on devotees.
The belief is the result of experience. We would like to show you a way to your spiritual experience like the darshan of the Sudarshana idol, the performance of Homam and wearing the amulet. Let them make you filled with divine grace.
